BEIJING — U.S. President Joe Biden mentioned he expects to speak with Chinese language President Xi Jinping by the tip of the month.

He didn’t elaborate on causes for the decision or deliberate matters of dialogue. China’s Ministry of Overseas Affairs didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

The 2 leaders final spoke in March, principally about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. China has refused to name the assault an invasion.

“I think I’ll be talking to President Xi within the next 10 days,“ Biden told reporters Wednesday Eastern time, according to a White House transcript.

When asked whether he thought Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi should visit Taiwan this summer, Biden said: “The army thinks it is not a good suggestion proper now, however I do not know what the standing of it’s.”

The Financial Times this week reported, citing sources, that Pelosi planned to take a delegation to Taiwan in August — the first visit by someone in her position in 25 years.

China warned it would take “robust and resolute measures” if such a visit have been to happen, Overseas Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian mentioned at a press briefing.

Taiwan is a democratically self-ruled island that Beijing considers a part of its territory. China has maintained it seeks peaceable reunification with Taiwan.
